I recently read a story that really impressed me and I want to share it with you. There is a huge rock located in rural Iowa, in what is Adair County and for generations the area kids would paint rivalry slogans and filthy obscenities on the rock. This rock had really become and eye sore to the area as you couldn't help, but to notice it as you drove by. In 1999 this was all about to change however! Why you are probably thinking? Well, things changed because of one person with an idea. This person was Ray (Bubba) Sorensen. He was 19 years old at the time and he had a plan for "graffiti rock" as it was called back then! Bubba was a young man with artistic abilities and he looked at graffiti rock and came up with a plan to transform it into "A Freedom Rock" as a Memorial Day tribute to our servicemen and servicewomen, both past and present. Below is the link to see "Freedom Rock" and after clicking on the link....you can scroll down and see the different designs he has painted on the rock each successive year since. You're welcome! Maybe the YW's and YM's could make it a service project!
